The Plex Media Server has integrated Chromecast support. Your Chromecast will stream the media from your Plex media server.

BTW, if you are new to Plex, here is a turorial for you to Set Up Plex Media Server and Plex Client. Perhaps it has unworkable with Plex upgrading, somehow, hope it helps.

If you want to add movie from DVD and Blu-ray disc to Plex, you just need to rip the Blu-ray and DVD disc into Plex supported formats, such as H.264 MP4(compatible with Chromecast, too). Here show you the Brief Guide:

Here I will an easy guide for copying and streaming DVDs or Blu-rays to Plex Media Server with a few mouse clicks. Download and install Brorsoft DVD Ripper or Blu-ray Ripper FREE TRAIL version on your Windows, or Brorsoft DVD Ripper for Mac or Blu-ray Ripper for Mac (compatible with macOS SierraFREE TRAIL version on your Mac.

Here we take Windows Blu-ray Ripper screenshot, Mac Version and other programs mentioned above share the same steps besides the tiny difference in interface.

STEP 1. Import Blu-ray or DVD movies

Insert your Blu-ray or DVD disc into your BD drive or DVD drive, run the Blu-ray Ripper and click "BD/DVD disc" icon to load movies.

After the Blu-ray or DVD files are loaded, you can preview them on the right viewing window and take snapshots of your favorite movie scene.

Blu-ray or DVD folder, ISO and IFO files are also supported.

Note: Before loading Blu-ray content, a BD drive is needed and pls keep networked.

STEP 2. Decide output format

Click the "Format" option, and choose *.mp4 from Common Video profile list. If you want to keep 1080p resolution as source movie, you can choose HD Video > H.264 HD Video(*.mp4) for Plex Media Server.

Note: The output format is preferably in a common format, like MP3 for audio, MPEG-4 for video. The more common format you use, the more devices you can stream to. For example, if you use FLAC instead of MP3 for your music, you can't stream to your Chromecast. Just keep in mind that not all devices support all formats of media.

Tip - Advanced Settings:

If you like, you can click "Settings" to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.

STEP 3. Start ripping Blu-ray or DVD to Plex

Click the convert button under the preview window, and the Blu-ray ripper will start the conversion from Blu-ray or DVD movies to Plex Media Server.

You can view the conversion progress and able to cancel the converting process at anytime.

When the conversion is over, click "open" to locate converted movies.
