How to Play DVDs using Windows Media Player

When playing a DVD in Windows Media Player, sometimes shows an error message. That's because for Windows XP, the default settings in Windows Media Player no longer enable video DVD playback. For Windows 8, it doesn't include built-in support for playing DVDs. In order to play DVD in Windows Media Player, you may have to take a few extra steps.

How to convert DVD to Windows Media Player easily

Step 1. Import DVD movie

Insert the DVD disc into your computer's hard drive and run the DVD ripping program. Click "Load DVD" and import your DVD movies. You can also add DVD folders, ISO image files to convert. After the DVD has been loaded, you can select the subtitles and audio tracks.

Step 2. Choose WMV as output format

Click the Format menu, select Windows Media Player friendly format as your output video format. There, you can take WMV as your output video format. If you prefer high definition videos, move your mouse pointer to "HD Video" and then choose HD WMV. Then you can click "Settings" to tweak the detailed video and audio encoding settings.

3. Start conversion

Finally click the Convert button to begin ripping DVD to Windows Media Player format.
