Q1: How do you import video from a Blu-ray into iMovie 11?

I have an hour nd 25 minute Blu-ray project that I thought I had backed up on the hard drive. My mistake. The question is how do a import the video project from the Blu-ray back into iMovie?

Q2:What's the best way to import Blu-ray into iMovie 11?

My Mom got a new Mac for birthday and I'm trying to help her import a bunch of Blu-rays with home movies transferred from VHS into iMovie 11. I was able to use Handbrake to rip it to an MP4 and import that into iMovie but I'm curious if there's a more efficient way that would be easier to explain to my mom.

Google turns up several results suggest me using Disk Utility to copy the Blu-ray into a .dmg file which iMovie would recognize as a camera it could import from, but that doesn't seem to work with the current version.

i am using Handbrake 1.0.0 to rip my Blu-ray collection to MP4 format for imovie editing, why iMovie still can not recognize the converted Blu-ray files in MP4 format, is there anyway to convert Blu-ray to AIC MOV directly?
